dissolve & dissolve
with Rémy Hans, curated by Claire Ducène + sabine sil
POELP, Brussels, BE
April 24 - June 1, 2025
Exhibition produced with the support of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, COCOF, iMAL, ACBC, and in partnership with the Herbes Folles bookstore.
As part of the 6th edition of QUATUOR+1, an artistic format or horizontal working system centered around exhibitions at POELP, visual artist Claire Ducène, invited by sabine sil, exhibitions coordinator at POELP, chose to invite artist Rémy Hans, originally from the Borinage region, for a particular kind of experimentation. This involved a subtle variation, in the musical sense of the term, of his artistic practice, taking advantage of a somewhat atypical exhibition setup at POELP.
His work usually explores the notion of landscape, with his perspective oscillating between architecture and nature.
For this exhibition, the artist wanted to test the precision of his artistic gesture by enhancing it with a controlled sense of ephemerality and the metamorphosis of matter, in order to address the issue of endangered or extinct plant species.
This research resonated with methods and themes found in the work of the Muesli Collective, which led sabine sil to invite them to join this 6th QUATUOR+1 for the Spring 2025 exhibition at POELP.
Muesli Collective, whose practice often puts material to the test through potential transmutations caused by environmental factors or guided intervention, chose to present a stage of their ongoing research. This project focuses on the progressive disintegration of ice samples extracted from Antarctic ice cores.
They collaborated with the ULB glaciology lab and designed a setup that reveals the stages of ice crystal melting using polarizing filters.
Viewers are thus invited to witness the transformation of ice slices, reflecting a broad temporal span from 1450 to 1970.
These haunting and mesmerizing videos will be shown in the exhibition through a display designed to encourage contemplation.
